What our clients have to say.
Meet Alan and Kerry.Alan and Kerry were like most Australians of their generation, who saw their accountant as their primary point of contact for their financial affairs.
“We weren’t really aware of the differences between a financial adviser and an accountant” says Alan. “We certainly didn’t realise the difference that having one or the other could make in our lives” he adds. “We are both teachers, but once we met Michael, our thoughts turned more towards retirement,” explains Kerry. In addition to their dream to put more time into their farm, the couple also had plenty of things on their retirement checklist like overseas travel and more time dedicated to not-for-profit community work. “Michael took the time to understand that and also explain to both of us in simple terms what we were doing and the benefits in making changes.” says Kerry. The culture at Lighthouse meant that Michael and Kylie treated Alan and Kerry like family from the beginning, and since then, their son Dallas has joined the team at Lighthouse, which has allowed him to take over as their adviser. “Alan likes to work with cattle and horses, and I love to do a lot of community work which is immensely rewarding in a non-financial sense” explains Kerry. “Having regular catch-ups and reviews with Dallas means that we can continue to do all the things we hoped to do in retirement, without having to worry that we will run out of money” says Kerry. "That peace of mind and being able to run ideas past someone who knows our finances is a huge part of why we actually enjoy coming back to Dallas and the team at Lighthouse regularly” explains Kerry. “We’ve also got plans to travel to Canada to see our nephew get married, and also to visit Spain and Ireland in the near future” says Alan. "Having our financial 'ducks in a row' means we can get on with life" he added. |
